KENNEBUNK – A sobriety checkpoint Saturday night on Fletcher Street resulted in six arrests for impaired driving.

Between 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13 and 1 a.m. Sunday, 801 motorists passed through the checkpoint, said Kennebunk Police Patrol Division Commander Lt. Christopher Russell.

Kennebunk Police conducted the checkpoint in cooperation with the Regional Impaired Driving Enforcement team.

The sobriety checkpoint was funded by a grant from the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety. Russell said Kennebunk Police thank everyone for their patience and cooperation. He noted all individuals taken into custody are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
