Shelby Anderson, Marshwood senior, defender: The top returning defensive player for the Hawks, Anderson was an all-SMAA honorable mention selection last season. Under new coach Meg Martinson, Anderson will look to control play and transition the team from defense to offense.
Abby Bouffard, Biddeford sophomore, forward: An all-SMAA honorable mention choice as a freshman last season, Bouffard gained varsity experience that will help her set the pace for the Tigers’ offense. She scored six goals and had six assists last season, and will look to help Biddeford improve on five wins in 2021.
Chloe Bourque, York senior, defender: A first team all-Western Maine Conference selection last season, Bourque was “our engine,” according to York Coach Nick Hanlon. The Wildcats’ most experienced player, Bourque scored six goals and added 10 assists while primarily playing as a center back or holding midfielder.
Grace Badger, Wells junior, midfielder: An all-Western Maine Conference player last season, Badger scored nine goals and added seven assists. She’ll once again be a key player as the Warriors look to contend in a tough Class B South.
Faith Connolly, Gorham senior, midfielder: One of two starters back for the Rams, Connolly is the team’s playmaker, said Coach Jeanne Zarrilli, moving well off the ball and skillfully distributing to her teammates. Connolly will be a leader with the young Rams.
Lana Djuranovic, Scarborough junior, midfielder: Djuranovic tallied 18 goals and 13 assists as a sophomore, earning SMAA Co-Rookie of the Year honors. She broke Scarborough’s single-season record for assists.
Allie Doughty, Bonny Eagle senior, defender: A co-captain and center back, Doughty was an all-SMAA honorable mention selection last season. With a strong schedule that includes games against each of the four Class A South semifinalists from last season, the Scots will call upon Doughty to defend the top offensive players in the region.
Caoilinn Durkin, Cheverus senior, forward: An honorable mention all-SMAA selection last season, Durkin will be a bigger piece of the Stags’ offense as they work to overcome the graduation of leading scorer Julia Kratzer. Durkin is a team captain and will be a leader on a young team.
Piper Duryee, Cape Elizabeth senior, midfielder: As the Capers look to win their fourth consecutive Class B state title, Duryee will be an important player in the midfield. She’ll be asked to control play and get the ball to Cape Elizabeth’s top offensive threats, including her sister, CC Duryee, and Noelle Mallory.
Amber Fortin, Gray-New Gloucester senior, defender: A second-team all-Western Maine Conference selection as a junior, Fortin is the top returning player for the Patriots and should be one of the top defensive players in Class B. Fortin will be a leader on a team looking to improve on five wins in 2021.
Ava Feeley, Yarmouth senior, forward: Feeley scored 24 goals and had six assists last season, and will be a one of the top offensive players in the Western Maine Conference once again. She has verbally committed to play at Boston College.
Elsa Freeman, Deering sophomore, forward: Freeman scored 17 goals for the Rams last season, earning SMAA Co-Rookie of the Year honors. She’ll be a key to Deering’s offense again as the Rams look to improve on last year’s four-win season.
Lucy Hart, Waynflete junior, forward: Hart led the Flyers with 14 goals last season7, and will once again be one of the top offensive threats in Class C South as Waynflete looks to make another deep playoff run. The Flyers reached the Class C South semifinals last season.
Angel Huntsman, North Yarmouth Academy, senior midfielder: A veteran presence in the midfield for the defending Class D state champions, Huntsman scored 33 goals last season. She plans to play basketball at Bates College.
Stella Jarvais, Windham sophomore, defender: Jarvais was first team all-SMAA as a freshman, playing strong defense as the Eagles went undefeated and won the Class A state championship. She’ll once again anchor Windham’s back line. Coach Deb LeBel calls Jarvais a smart, strong defender who is tough to beat.
Mallory Kerr, Falmouth junior, defender: A first team all-SMAA player as a sophomore, Kerr will be an important defender as Falmouth replaces keeper Jordan Wolf, now at Division I Stony Brook. New coach Ben Johnson calls Kerr a well-round player and a natural leader with a physical presence on the backline.
Elise MacNair, Old Orchard Beach senior, forward: One of the top forwards in Class C, MacNair scored 33 goals and had 13 assists last season to earn all-region and first team all-Western Maine Conference honors. She has the speed to beat defenders 1-on-1 and the strength to fight through double teams.
Ali Mokriski, Scarborough senior, forward: Mokriski earned first-team all-SMAA honors after scoring 21 goals and getting eight assists. Mokriski has committed to play at Bryant University next year.
Alexis Morin, Brunswick sophomore, forward: The KVAC Class A Player of the Year as a freshman, Morin scored 21 goals and added seven assists in leading the Dragons to the Class A North title. She’ll be a key player again as Brunswick contends in Class A.
Emily Olsen, Freeport senior, midfielder: A leader on a fast Freeport team, Olsen scored eight goals and had four assists last season. She was a second-team all-Western Maine Conference selection.
Allie Read, Greely senior, defender: A three-sport athlete, Read was a member of Greely’s state championship lacrosse team in the spring and has experience in big games. She has the presence and field awareness to control things from the back line. Coach Rachel Williams calls Read a natural leader.
Serra Rich, Thornton Academy junior, midfield/forward: Rich led the Trojans in scoring last season with 10 goals and two assists, and she will be a key player as the team looks to make another deep run in the Class A South tournament.
Eliza Stein, Portland senior, forward: A second team all-SMAA player last season, Stein will be counted on to pace the Bulldogs’ offense. Matt Bernstein, Portland’s new coach, said he’s been impressed with Stein’s leadership, dedication to her teammates and unselfish play. Stein could also play midfields.
Sydney Stone, Camden Hills senior, midfielder: Stone was a first-team all-KVAC selection last season and will once again be a key contributor for the powerhouse Windjammers. Camden Hills finished with a 13-3 record last season, and Stone’s play will be important in making the Windjammers one of the favorites in Class A North again.
Abbey Thornton, Windham senior, midfielder: The SMAA Offensive Player of the Year last season, Thornton scored 32 goals and added 13 assists in helping the Eagles go undefeated on their way to the Class A championship.
