Re: Morgan Hart Tolin’s letter to the editor (“Parents need say in shooter drills,” Oct. 15, Page A4):
All I can say is it’s a good thing Morgan and children weren’t around in 1942-1943. That’s when I was a first-grader and we had school air raid drills on a regular basis. We all participated. There was no question of choice. I don’t recall being traumatized. That was just the way life was.
And we had other things to deal with, such as blackout curtains, searchlights, rationing of food and gasoline, the unavailability of many items, etc. But we had an easy life compared to the British and a much easier life than most Europeans.
