A Harpswell man died Monday morning after his truck struck a large dirt embankment and flipped onto its roof, according to police.

Mason Warren, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt, and police believe speed and alcohol were factors in the crash, according to a news release.

The crash was reported just before 7 a.m. at the intersection of Mountain and Reach roads in Harpswell, heading toward Route 123, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department.

Police said Warren’s vehicle swerved onto the road’s dirt shoulder before swerving back onto the road, crossing the center line and crashing into an embankment off the opposite side of the road.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
