Running a campaign focused on clean energy and lowering the cost of living for Mainers, Democrat Sen. Eloise Vitelli has been reelected as to the District 24 seat, according to unofficial results from Tuesday’s election.
District 24 covers the town of Dresden and all of Sagadahoc County. With results from all but five towns in the district tabulated as of Wednesday afternoon, Vitelli was in the lead over Republican candidate Matthew Brackley by more than 3,000 votes, taking 62% of the ballots.
“Serving in the Maine Senate has been a tremendous honor, and I am so grateful to have again earned the votes of people in District 24,” Vitelli wrote in a Wednesday news release. “I believe we have made great progress as a state since I first began serving in the Legislature. I am looking forward to the work ahead to continue building on that progress to ensure that working families, seniors and all people in Sagadahoc County and Dresden have their voice heard in the Maine Legislature.”
District 24 was redrawn for this year’s election. Previously, it covered Brunswick, Freeport, Harpswell and Pownal and was represented by Sen. Matthea Daughtry.
Prior to the election, Vitelli told The Times Record she would continue her work aiding Mainers when it comes to expanding the workforce, providing affordable health care and investing in clean energy.
“I will continue to work with my colleagues on housing issues; workforce training, including expanding opportunities for careers in trades, technical fields, and health professions, and college affordability; access to affordable and quality health care; strengthening the electric grid and ensuring that the benefits and burdens of the transition to cleaner energy are fairly born by all,” she said. “Helping communities and businesses, and our traditional industries, farming, fishing, forestry and tourism, adapt to climate change and other environmental threats, will continue to be priorities.”
