Democracy had a good day on Nov. 8.
I thank Secretary of State Shenna Bellows and her staff for ensuring that we had a free and fair election. Thanks also to the citizens of Maine for voting in very high numbers for a midterm election, and for doing it respectfully and peacefully.
Congratulations to Governor Mills. She ran hard against a challenging opponent and did it with dignity. Gov. Mills makes Maine proud. Congratulations to the Maine Democratic Party, who put forth a slate of good candidates and retained their majority in the Maine Senate and House.
Around the country, defenders of “the big lie,” who were not in safe Republican seats, mostly lost. All in all, it was a good day.
