As the days wind down for 2022 and the 117th U.S. Congress, Mainers should be very thankful for the moderate climate leadership of our lawmakers.

Every day brings increasingly alarming news about the global climate crisis. Fortunately, Sens. Angus King and Susan Collins and Reps. Chellie Pingree and Jared Golden are working hard to lead their colleagues toward effective and equitable climate action. Yes, the Inflation Reduction Act is a record-breaking climate triumph, but let’s not forget the infrastructure bill and CHIPS Act, both of which proved that bipartisan climate action is not only possible but also rewarded from voters and must become the growing norm for humanity to thrive.

As countless headlines and scientific warnings make painfully obvious, more ambitious climate action is desperately needed. Thankfully, our lawmakers are currently working hard to pass additional climate policies that will greatly benefit Maine’s people, businesses and environment.

The RISEE Act helps provide resiliency for our threatened coasts; NCARS increases the efficiency of our government’s climate response; the Growing Climate Solutions Act empowers our farmers to realize their potential as natural climate heroes, and the FOREST Act helps protect the natural woodland carbon sinks threatened worldwide. Please contact our lawmakers today through cclusa.org/action, thank them for their leadership and ask them to finish strong on climate by sponsoring and passing these bills.
