Every moment is a moment to do what is right. Every single moment. No exceptions.

As most readers are aware, because of letters and articles from the past year, hundreds of tribal nations in our country receive benefits from over 150 federal laws passed since 1980. Maine’s Wabanaki tribal nations have not benefited from those. Not one.

U.S. Rep. Jared Golden introduced a bill this past spring to add Wabanaki tribal nations to all future federal bills passed for the benefit of tribal nations in our country.

HR 6707 is attached to our National Defense Authorization Act and Congress’ appropriations bill. U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree has cosponsored HR 6707.

This is the time to include Wabanaki tribal nations with all other federally recognized tribal nations. It’s the right thing to do. If our great state of Maine were prevented from receiving federal funds and benefits while all 49 other states received them, then our citizens and legislators would act powerfully to have Maine included. Our Wabanaki tribal nations deserve powerful actions from our Maine congressional leaders to have them included on all future congressional bills benefiting tribal nations.

Please contact Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King to tell them you support HR 6707, and you want them to take powerful action to support it and do what is right.
