The University of Maine scored two first-period goals and the Black Bears held on to beat Boston College, 3-1, in a Hockey East game on Friday night in Boston.

Lynden Breen opened the scoring for the Black Bears (13-13, 7-9-1 Hockey East) with Donavan Villeneuve-Houle and Thomas Freel assisting at 5:10 of the first period. Didrick Henbrant then added a short-handed goal at 14:00 with Nolan Renwick assisting.

Villeneuve-Houle added an empty-net goal with 1:34 remaining. Goalie Victor Ostman finished with 31 saves for Maine.

For Boston College (9-12-6, 5-8-5), Trevor Kuntar scored with 3:53 left in regulation to pull the Eagles to within a goal. Mitch Benson made 18 saves.

WESLEYAN 2, BOWDOIN 2: Owen Sweet scored with 1:16 left in regulation to help the Cardinals (13-5-3, 9-3-3 NESCAC) tie the Polar Bears (11-7-3, 5-7-3) in Brunswick.

After Bobby Pearl tied it 1-1 late in the second period, Ethan Kimball gave the Polar Bears the lead 9:53 into the third with assists from Joe Alexander and Gabe Shipper.

Alex Kozic finished with 24 saves for Bowdoin while Erik Voloshin made 32 saves for Wesleyan.

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 2, ENDICOTT 2:  Daniel Winslow scored a short-handed goal with 2:40 to play in regulation as the Nor’easters (15-5-2, 13-4-1 CCC) rallied for a tie against the Gulls (18-1-2, 16-0-2) at Beverly, Massachusetts.

Aidan Curran had a goal for UNE.

Cass Bowes scored both goals for Endicott.

TRINITY 4, COLBY 2: Paul Selleck scored a go-ahead goal with 8:10 left and the Bantams (15-5-1, 12-2-1 NESCAC) went on to defeat the Mules (10-9-2, 8-6-1) in Waterville.

James Tepper scored the first period, John McElaney added a second-period goal and Andy Beran made 25 saves for Colby.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

BOWDOIN 61, HAMILTON 51:  Sydney Jones had 23 points, including three 3-pointers as the Polar Bears (15-8, 4-5 NESCAC) topped the Continentals (11-10, 4-5) at Clinton, New York.

Sela Kay added in 12 points for Bowdoin.

Emma Sehring led Hamilton with 17 points.

AMHERST 56, COLBY 42:  AnLing Vera had 19 points and the Mammoths (16-7, 4-5 NESCAC) used a 21-2 third-quarter run to cruise past the Mules (8-13, 3-6) at Amherst, Massachusetts.

Kori Barach chipped in with 13 points for Amherst, while Reeya Patel had 11.

Chelsea Ibenegbu and Lydia Mordarski had 12 apiece for Colby.

BATES 61, TRINITY 53:  Meghan Graff had 13 of her 22 points in the second half as the Bobcats (12-10, 4-5 NESCAC) upended the Bantams (20-3, 7-2) at Lewiston.

Reilly Campbell paced Trinity with 31 points.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

COLBY 71, AMHERST 56:  The Mules (17-6, 4-5 NESCAC) opened the second half with a 12-5 run and downed the Mammoths (9-14, 3-6) at Waterville.

Will King led Colby with 24 points while Alec McGovern chipped in with 12.

Ryker Vance had 20 points for Amherst.

TRINITY 82, BATES 62:  Ben Callahan-Gold had 20 points, going 8 of 14 from the field, as the Bantams (16-7, 4-5) handled the Bobcats (7-16, 1-8) at Hartford, Connecticut.

Jarrel Okorougo added 12 for Trinity.

Elliott Cravitz led Bates with 13 points.

HAMILTON 58, BOWDOIN 39:  The Continentals (16-7, 7-2 NESCAC) opened the second half with a 15-3 run to pull away from the Polar Bears (10-13, 2-7) at Brunswick.

Eric Anderson paced Hamilton with 15 points, Conner Rood added 14 and Hank Morgan had 10.

Michael Simonds had 13 points to lead Bowdoin.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

MAINE 1, MERRIMACK 0:  Alyssa Wruble scored a power-play goal with assists from Mira Seregely and Elise Morphy late in the first period as the Black Bears (14-15-2, 11-11-2 Hockey East) blanked the Warriors (7-23-1, 4-19-1) at North Andover, Massachusetts.

Calli Hogarth stopped 21 shots for Merrimack, while Jorden Mattison made 27 saves to record the shutout for Maine.

SOUTHERN MAINE 2, SALEM STATE 1:  The Huskies (13-10-1, 11-5-1 NEHC) scored a pair of goals in the span of 1:08 early in the third to rally past the Vikings (5-15-2, 2-13-2) at Salem, Massachusetts.

Makayla McGrath scored midway through the second period for Salem State, but Madison Chagnon answered for Southern Maine 2:11 into the third and Madelyn McLeish put home the go-ahead goal.

Dana Smullen had 25 saves for the Vikings, while Haley McKim stopped 33 shots for the Huskies.

COLBY 4, WESLEYAN 0:  The Mules (13-6, 7-6 NESCAC) got goals from four different scorers and Mandy Busky stopped 28 in a shutout of the Cardinals (9-11-1, 3-9-1) at Middletown, Connecticut.

Georgia Pettygrove, Meg Rittenhouse, McKinley Karpa and Courtney Schumacher scored for Colby.

ENDICOTT 2, U. OF NEW ENGLAND 1: Quin Healy scored just over a minute into overtime to lift the Gulls (13-7) over the Nor’easters (7-12) in Biddeford.

Keely Kasputis scored from Meghan Hamilton and Abbi Charvat in the first period for UNE before Jess Michals tied it for the Gulls in the second.

Delanie Corcoran stopped 45 shots for the Nor’easters.

TRINITY 2, BOWDOIN 1: Jenny Guider scored 3:10 into overtime to give the Bantams (10-10) the win over the Polar Bears (7-13-2) in Brunswick.

Anyi Sun scored and Sally Solotaroff-Webber stopped 36 shots for Bowdoin.
