I would like to voice my support for saving a part of Maine history: the former Kennebunkport railroad depot. Built in 1881, it is now part of the Pilot House Restaurant and slated for demolition. A new, larger, modern building will take its place.

I ask that the former depot, a modest 48-foot-by-20-foot light wooden building, be offered to others before being razed. It was an important part of the community’s transportation system and an aesthetically pleasing structure. It could easily be moved and repurposed. It could serve as a new welcome center, like the one at the Nubble Lighthouse.

Consider saving something that makes Maine a special place for visitors, including me, to return to time and time again.
