Recently my electric bill exceeded $100 for the first time. Subsequent bills have cost the same. I believe this is due to a utility company that has at least partly raised my rates because of its failed expenditures for a corridor that most Mainers who cast ballots rejected.
This company does not hold the interests of Maine citizens at heart. It is a foreign-owned subsidiary which joined hand in hand with another foreign corporation to pour money into an issue decided at the ballot box.
What is the use of a referendum if money from outside this state is allowed to turn a loophole in the law into a broken spigot? If a candidate cannot accept foreign contributions, why should a vested interest be allowed? Obviously, the interests of Mainers are not being met until their will takes precedence over lobbyists, liars and people from away. Protect Maine elections!
