Regarding the statements by Thomas Boatman on banning books (“Letter to the editor: Windham book banning efforts cause harm,” March 4), he’s missing the reason for asking that these books be pulled from the school libraries.

It has nothing to do with queer and trans subjects being unfit for children. It’s about removing material with explicit dialogue and imagery, regardless of how the genders are coupled.

I also watched the meeting in Windham last week and can not remember anyone saying anything negative about one’s gender, trans or queer (from the side that wanted the books pulled).

We are not regressing to a time of burning books, but rather about trying to prevent our children from seeing this material at 10, 11, 12 and 13 years old.
