I am writing to express my dismay and disappointment regarding the Dick Wright “cartoon” featured in the March 9 edition of the Press Herald. The cartoon was not even amusing. It lamely attempted to make fun of our President due to his age. I am not aware whether or not President Biden regularly takes a nap. However, if he does he is certainly following a good model. Winston Churchill, the strongest and most effective leader of the World War II era famously took a daily nap. This did not appear to distract from Churchill’s effectiveness as the leader and inspiration of the British people.

I defy the cartoonist to try to keep up with President Biden’s work and travel schedule and to shoulder anything remotely near to his burden of responsibilities as he works on behalf of the American people to move us to a better world.

Your publication of this cartoon demonstrates ageism at its worst and your readers deserve an apology. I could elaborate further, but I am going on pause to take my own nap, only to awake refreshed and ready to move on to serious work.
