POWNAL – Josephine D. Vosmus died on March 22, 2023 at the age of 93. She was born in Freeport on Nov. 16, 1929, the daughter of Charles and Wilma Richards Knight.

Josephine attended Pownal elementary schools, graduated from North Yarmouth Academy in the class of 1948 and was a lifelong Pownal resident. She worked in manufacturing at several Freeport shoe shops and then was employed by L.L. Bean for over 20 years as a skilled craftsperson.

Josephine was known as an excellent cook and won numerous awards for her food and handiwork entries at the Cumberland Fair. Since her youth she was a member of #14 Granite Grange.

Josephine was predeceased by her parents; and brothers, Richard Knight and Carl Knight; sons, Darrel Thurber and Kevin Thurber.

She is survived by her daughter, Karin Thombs and son-in-law Burleigh Thombs of Woolwich and daughters-in-law, Linda Thurber of Monson and Norma Thurber of Topsham; as well as six grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

A private graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery in Pownal in the spring.
