A long-time physician at Central Maine Family Practice in Lewiston died Wednesday morning after his pickup truck rolled over on the Maine Turnpike in Falmouth.
Thomas Bosma, who lived in Falmouth, was on his way to work when the crash took place around 6 a.m. in the northbound lane of the turnpike near the Hurricane Road overpass, Central Maine Healthcare said in a statement.

“Central Maine Healthcare has lost a beloved team member,” the hospital said in a statement. “Dr. Bosma was with Central Maine Healthcare for more than two decades.”
Bosma completed his residency at Central Maine Medical Center before joining the Mechanic Falls Family Practice. After briefly working at Martin’s Point Health Care, he returned to Central Maine Healthcare in 2019.
“According to his colleagues at Family Practice, Dr. Bosma was highly sought-after and held in very high esteem by his patients. He was also very well-liked by his fellow team members who remember his playful sense of humor and many routines, such as bringing his own home-baked bread to share at the office every Monday,” Central Maine Healthcare said.Survivors include his wife, Tracy, as well as a son and daughter, Central Maine Healthcare said.
Bosma was driving his 2017 Honda Ridgeline north in Falmouth when he became distracted, drifted off the road and struck a guardrail, causing the truck to flip over, Shannon Moss, spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said in a release. He was trapped inside and removed by Falmouth firefighters.
Police initially said Bosma’s injuries were serious but not believed to be life-threatening because he was alert, conscious and communicating with first responders. But after he was extricated from the truck and taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland, his condition rapidly deteriorated and he died from his injuries, police said.
The crash remains under investigation.
