I am writing a letter of support for the Falmouth teachers and educators, who are mediating a contract with the Falmouth School Board. First, I value the school board’s time and work for our town and am grateful for their service. While I appreciate the school board’s efforts to pass a fiscally responsible budget, I am surprised and disappointed that they are trying to achieve this by going after the teachers’ total compensation.

My oldest child began kindergarten in 2020, a year filled with uncertainty and turmoil in the schools. Her teachers, without hesitation, gave everything they could to provide normalcy, emotional support and consistency, all while providing an amazing education in a less than ideal situation. That level of dedication, devotion and care has been true with every teacher and educator my daughter has had since. Next fall, I will be enrolling my second child in Falmouth kindergarten and in a few years, my third. My fervent hope is that our teachers in Falmouth will remain as wonderful as they have thus far.

Without a fair contract and sufficient support from our school board, I worry we may not retain our schools’ most valuable assets for the current and future students. Please join me in encouraging our school board to adopt a fair contract for our educators.
