My compliments to reporter Sydney Richelieu and the Northern Forecaster for the May 18 story about the Falmouth Police Department’s recovery coach Kathleen Oelschlegel and her work helping 140 people recover from addiction (“Falmouth Police recovery coach program assists 140 people so far“). First, it’s nice to see we’re investing in helping victims of addiction, and second, it’s nice to see good news in the press.

I’ve dealt with the Falmouth Police Department several times in my 37 years here and have always been impressed. We’re lucky to have police that are deeply committed to protecting and serving the public.

I am convinced that one of the most critical roles police can play is taking a lead role in the war on drugs. It’s nice to see we’re arming law enforcement with coaches. Officer Oelschlegel sounds like just the tool we need.
