Twenty residents of a Brunswick housing development were displaced by a raging fire Sunday afternoon that left five townhouse units uninhabitable.
One woman was transported to a hospital with what appeared to be minor injuries, Brunswick Fire Chief Kenneth Brillant said.
Crews from Brunswick and five neighboring towns responded to the scene at the apartments at Perryman Village shortly after 1 p.m. Sunday.
About 45 firefighters from Brunswick, Bath, Topsham, West Bath, Lisbon and Freeport fought the fire, which left the front and back sections of the building blackened. Brillant said those crews were able to prevent the fire from spreading to an adjacent building.
The fire – which left a good part of the building at 36-40 Perryman Drive charred and crumbling – does not appear to be suspicious, Brillant said. He added that the cause remains under investigation by his department and the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Perryman Village is located off Route 24 at Cook’s Corner, near a Goodwill and a Regal Cinemas, which is closed.
The chief said the apartments at Perryman Village are owned and operated by the Brunswick Housing Authority, which serves low-income families and individuals.
The American Red Cross sent a team to help displaced residents fire with clothing and temporary shelter, Brillant said.
According to the Brunswick Housing Authority’s website, Perryman Village offers two-, three-, four- and five-bedroom apartments.
