Regarding the June 4 article on the lack of caregivers, funds and other kinds of support for special needs children (“Parents of special needs children place hopes in bill that would pay them as caregivers”):

We must ask ourselves: Is ours really a civilized society?

When our most vulnerable children and their families do not have the assistance needed to live a healthier life, are we really an advanced, enlightened nation? No, we are not. For us to be that, more material help and more compassion are required.
