Maine is now considering L.D. 1619, a bill that would remove time limits on abortion (current Maine law does not allow abortion after viability of the baby outside the womb) with no penalty. It would also remove the penalty for anyone not licensed to provide an abortion. (Currently only licensed physicians, physician assistants and advanced practice registered nurses can provide an abortion in Maine.)
I hope and pray Maine rejects L.D. 1619. It is an extreme bill. Late-term abortion is rare in Maine and we should keep it that way.
