Cape Elizabeth voters passed the $34.2 million school budget Tuesday, 849 to 686.
The budget results in a tax rate increase of 94 cents, or 6.3%, from $16.04 per $1,000 assessed value to $16.98. The owner of a home assessed at $350,000 would pay $329 more in school taxes next year.
Over 1,539 votes were cast, representing 17% of Cape Elizabeth registered voters.
The town offered voters a “non-binding expression of opinion” on the school budget for feedback. The majority, 757, said it was too high; 543 deemed it acceptable; and 218 considered it to be too low.
