NORWAY — The HGTV cable network will film an episode of its popular home-buying series “House Hunters” in Norway next week.
Interim Town Manager Bradley Plante revealed the plans during Thursday’s Select Board meeting.
The unscripted series, which debuted in 1999, follows an individual or a family on their quest to purchase a home in a particular area with the help of a local real estate agent. The “house hunters” will visit three homes before selecting one during the 30-minute episode. At the end of the show, the producers revisit the homebuyers to find out what they think of their decision and to see what changes were made.
Film crews are expected to be in town for three days starting Friday. In addition to filming the visits to the three houses, crews will also be shooting scenes along Main Street and drone footage in the lakes area.
Plante said he did not know when the episode would air.
In other business, the board approved purchasing four tires for a loader from Maine Commercial Tire in Sanford. Steve Powers, foreman of the Highway Department, recommended Michelin X Snoplus tires because of their exceptional performance on snow and ice.
The Select Board agreed and voted to purchase them for $3,751.99 apiece or four for $15,007.96.
The front counter in the Town Office will close at noon on the final day of this fiscal year, June 30, to allow town officials to close out the books.
Plante reported that the town is fighting an infestation of the browntail moth, which he said is all over town. The Recreation Department has seen some success using a mixture of Dawn dish soap and water. The town expects to lose some trees because of the infestation, Plante said.
The board approved a special amusement permit for Fiber and Vine at 402 Main St., a liquor license renewal for the Norway Country Club on Route 118 and a new liquor license for The Victorian on Main at 230 Main St. The Alan Day Community Garden at 26 Whitman St. received a one-night liquor license for Saturday.
Also approved were outdoor festival licenses for Western Foothills Land Trust for the annual Norway Triathlon and Creative Norway for the Norway Music & Arts Festival. Both are scheduled for Saturday, July 8.
Plante asked residents and businesses to submit their permit applications to the Town Office in a timely manner, saying some last-minute requests have created some problems.
