Ian James Lajoie
DAYTON – Ian James Lajoie of Dayton died tragically on Sunday, June 12, 2023. Ian was kind, generous, compassionate and fun-lovingly goofy. A gentle giant, so to speak. Quick to befriend anyone drawn to his smile and the goodness of his soul, Ian devotedly protected and uplifted them.
Ian packed so much into 18 way-too-short years: Eagle Scout, black belt in Taekwondo, college courses, a Maine App Challenge win, kayaking, fishing, ATVing, online gaming, laughing with amazing friends, and sharing the deepest love imaginable. His candle burned so bright, it burned out too quickly.
Ian worked for Jackson’s Tree Service and SMHC. He was planning to pursue Technology Management at USM, utilizing his quick wit, calm demeanor, creativity, and strategic mind.
Ian would zealously contend that as an honor roll student who lived a clean life, his passion for riding a motorcycle should be realized. Caged by the pandemic and suffering with a longtime chronic illness that repeatedly left him writhing in pain and utterly exhausted, he treasured the all-encompassing sense of freedom only a motorcycle could provide. Armed with a Kevlar jacket, gauntlets and backpack, and a full-faced helmet for protection, Ian’s spirit was freed.
Ian was predeceased by his grandfather Gerard Lajoie of Augusta, and his grandparents James and Barbara Dudley of Sidney. He is survived by his parents James and Christy Lajoie of Dayton; sister Alyssa Lajoie of Dayton; grandmother Yvonne Lajoie; and aunt Jaqueline Lajoie of Augusta, and uncle Eric Dudley who lives in Gorham with his wife Sarah and children Aidan and Grace; and his longtime girlfriend Mackenzie Green. Countless family members, mentors and friends provided Ian with experiences that fostered his lust for life, making Ian an amalgam of the best attributes of his tribe.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust from 1 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 23, 2023.
