Aidan McGowan ran for three touchdowns and Louis Thurston passed for two to lead undefeated Portland to a 47-6 win over Lewiston in a Class A football game Friday night in Lewiston.

McGowan scored from 70 yards late in the first quarter, then from 1 and 13 yards in the third for Portland (3-0), which opened a 34-6 halftime lead.

Thurston passed 18 yards to Reegan Buck to open the scoring, then to Cordell Jones to make it 20-0 in the second quarter. Buck also scored on a 35-yard run, and Hunter Temple had a 64-yard run.

Lewiston (1-2) scored in the third quarter when J.J. Dorr forced a fumble on a sack, then returned it 45 yards.

SANFORD 31, SOUTH PORTLAND 20: Rhylen Avery ran for three touchdowns – two in the first quarter – and the Spartans (2-0-1) held off the Red Riots (1-2) at Sanford.

Jordan Bissonnette added a 53-yard run in the second quarter, and Carter Mills scored from 13 yards in the third.

Matthew Frey had three rushing touchdowns for South Portland, including a 53-yard run early in the fourth.

CHEVERUS 28, CAPE ELIZABETH 0: Joe Osei finished with three rushing touchdowns as the Stags (3-0) rode a strong ground game to a victory over the Capers (0-3) in Cape Elizabeth.

Osei scored on runs of 6 yards in the first quarter, 9 yards in the second and 5 in the fourth. Quarterback Giovanni Onge had a 1-yard plunge in the third.

OXFORD HILLS 39, SCARBOROUGH 0: Brady Truman rushed for a touchdown and threw a touchdown pass to Braden Murch, and the Vikings (3-0) forced three turnovers in a win over the Red Storm (0-2) in Paris.

The Vikings led 14-0 after touchdown runs by Nick Binette and Truman. Hunter Tardiff added a 10-yard run in the second quarter, and Brady Delamater kicked a 28-yard field goal.

Murch’s TD catch and 2-point conversion reception made it 32-0 in the third. Owen Marr capped the scoring with a 45-yard interception return in the fourth quarter.

MORSE 16, WATERVILLE 14: Calin Gould’s 35-yard touchdown pass to Braylon Williams with 1 minute left and a 2-point conversion rush by Gould lifted the Shipbuilders (2-1) over the Panthers (2-1) in an eight-man game in Waterville.

Morse won its second straight game after an opening-night loss to Camden Hills. Waterville suffered its first loss after having not allowed a point in its first two games.

Waterville quarterback Ben Foster passed for 123 yards and a touchdown and also ran for a TD. His 35-yard pass to Dawson Harrison in the third quarter gave the Panthers a 14-8 lead.

Gould, who carried 13 times for 76 yards, opened the scoring with a 4-yard run in the second quarter, and Braden Cunningham ran for the conversion.

Foster answered with a 1-yard TD run, then passed to Felix Chapa for the conversion.

MT. ARARAT 22, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 12: Wesley Wallace rushed for a tiebreaking touchdown late in the third quarter, then added another TD run early in the fourth as the Eagles (1-2) beat the Patriots (0-3) in an eight-man game in Gray.

After trailing 6-0 at halftime, Gray-New Gloucester tied the game on a touchdown run by Brady Castrucci midway through the third quarter.

OLD ORCHARD BEACH 68, BOOTHBAY 0: Wesley Gallant rushed for two touchdowns and Brady Plante connected with Riley Provencher for a pair of long scores as the Seagulls (3-0) beat the Seahawks (1-2) in Boothbay Harbor.

Plante finished with three passing touchdowns, including a 24-yarder to Trot Moody. James Dion, Quincy Corcoran, Asher Hubert and Reid MacNair each had one rushing TD.

LEAVITT 63, YORK 13: Noah Carpenter accounted for four touchdowns for the Hornets (3-0) in a victory over the Wildcats (1-2) at York.

He scored on runs of 2, 16 and 20 yards and threw a 29-yard TD pass to Aiden Turcotte. Carpenter finished with 75 yards rushing on six carries and completed 6 of 11 passes for 127 yards — all in the first half, after which the Hornets led 49-13.

Maddox Demers ran for three scores — from 12, 14 and 28 yards. Brandon Bilodeau and Riley Meisner also had touchdown runs. Jace Negley recorded three sacks and Mason Twitchell had an interception for Leavitt.

York’s Ben Brown caught a 8-yard touchdown from Peter Martin. Brown also recovered a fumble on a kick return and returned it for a 35-yard touchdown.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

CHEVERUS 4, PORTLAND 0: Finley Brown and Sophia Monfa each contributed a goal and an assist, leading the Stags (3-1-1) over the visiting Bulldogs (1-4).

Annie Vigue and Chloe Durkin (first varsity goal) also scored. Evelyn Rush made three saves for the shutout.

Portland’s Lucy Tidd turned aside nine shots.

THORNTON ACADEMY 7, BIDDEFORD 1: Hadley Stoddard notched a hat trick and Quincy Thibault scored twice, powering the Trojans (2-1) past the Tigers (1-3) in Biddeford.

Kaylee Pellerin and Kiana Serunjogi each added a goal. Thornton goalies Ava Lomax and Olivia Frederickson combined for five saves.

Abby Bouffard was assisted by Katie Dallaire for Biddeford’s lone goal. Sarah Parks and Gabby Smith combined for 15 saves.

SCARBOROUGH 5, KENNEBUNK 0: The Red Storm (3-0) got goals from Sarah LeFebvre, Maggie Booth, Talia Borelli, Emmie Flaker and Paige Garlock in a win over the Rams (0-4) at Kennebunk.

Sophia Rinaldi made five saves in the shutout. Delia Fravert recorded three assists.

Ellie Nunan finished with 10 saves for Kennebunk.

LINCOLN ACADEMY 0, MEDOMAK VALLEY 0: Marcello Endrizzi made four saves for Lincoln (3-0-1) and Eli Pluecker stopped seven shots for Medomak Valley (4-1-1) as the teams played to a scoreless draw in Waldoboro.

MORSE 3, LEAVITT 1: Wyatt Rowe, Christian Hallowell and Charlie Thelen scored in the first half, and the Shipbuilders (2-3-1) beat the Hornets (1-3) in Bath.

Hallowell’s goal was a penalty kick.

Logan Berube converted a penalty kick for Leavitt in the first half.

Waylon Rhorer made eight saves for Morse, while Vanya Bezhenar stopped eight shots for Leavitt.

POLAND 1, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 0: Nora Thornton scored early in the third quarter, giving the Knights (1-4) the edge over the Raiders (0-4) in Fryeburg.

Evelyn Robertson made four saves in the shutout. Fryeburg’s Rayna Wales also stopped four shots.

FREEPORT 2, LAKE REGION 0: Liza Flower and Emily Groves scored in the first half to lead the Falcons (4-1) over the Lakers (2-1-1) in Freeport.

Lake Region goalie Reiyn Hart made seven saves.

CHEVERUS 4, GORHAM 0: Lucy Johnson netted three goals and Zoey Radford added one as the Stags (3-0) beat the Rams (4-1) in Gorham.

Ellie Skolnekovich made seven saves for Cheverus. Joey Pompeo had an assist.

Gorham’s Madison Tibbals stopped 13 shots.

MARSHWOOD 1, PORTLAND/DEERING 0: Eva Hersey scored with six minutes to play as the Hawks (2-2) edged Portland/Deering (1-4) in South Berwick.
