At the heart of the U.S. Constitution is our faith and belief in the right to free speech. We trust that, as citizens, our voice, our concerns and our truth will be heard without being penalized. But we also know how well “money talks.”

In fact, since the ruling in Citizens United over a decade ago, the air is full of corporate and dark money speech shouting at us. Endless ads bought and paid for so that those shouting the loudest can tell us what to think, what to do and how to vote. Even foreign governments can exploit the right to political free speech, further silencing the voices of Maine voters.

It is time to stop these foreign governments, and the entities that they own, from yelling over us with their bought and paid-for “speech.” It is time to turn down the volume so we can truly hear each other. Vote “yes” on Question 2.
