There was a quote from Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows in an Oct. 5 article headlined “Voter rolls become new battleground over secure elections as amateur sleuths hunt fraud.”

I found this quote to be quite amusing as Secretary of State Bellows states: “In an era of conspiracies and lies about our elections, integrity of voter information is hugely important. We want to make sure that no voters are targeted or harassed or threatened because of their decision to register and cast a ballot.”

In October 2022, a postcard arrived in the mail at my home from the Department of Secretary of State, Elections Division, Augusta, Maine. It was addressed to my wife, who passed away in June 2018. It stated that their records showed that she was not registered to vote and explained how to register to vote.

I wrote a letter to Secretary of State Bellows shortly thereafter asking why her office was sending a postcard to a deceased person about registering to vote. To date I have not received a reply. Perhaps Ms. Bellows needs to do some housekeeping in her own department.
