Central Maine Power and Versant have been running a misleading ad against Question 3, the Pine Tree Power proposal. They criticize Pine Tree Power by saying there is no guarantee that it will produce lower rates, keep the lights on more often or provide better customer service.
While no entity can guarantee those results, a review of the performance of publicly owned utilities demonstrates that there is a good chance that Pine Tree Power will produce positive results.
If Pine Tree Power is defeated, the utilities will revert to their bad old ways. Recent marginal improvements in the face of the Pine Tree Power threat will be reversed, and they will return to smaller line crew sizes, less distribution system maintenance and fewer customer service representatives.
Let’s give Pine Tree Power a chance.
