The Hamas attack does not justify Israel’s brutal retaliation – but Israel has been enforcing a policy of apartheid and human rights violations for decades. Are the Palestinians just supposed to lie down and take it in that open-air prison called Gaza until they are all crushed out of existence?

Israel’s policies toward Palestinians are not that different from those of Nazi Germany: dehumanization, ghettoization, apartheid laws and attempts to eradicate an entire group of human beings.

Hitler annihilated most of my family. I’ve got family in Israel. Innocent children are dying on both sides of this war. The survivors will be forever traumatized. But generations of people in Gaza have been traumatized their whole lives by Israeli policy.

The media focuses on Israeli suffering over that of the Palestinians, and Israeli leaders liken the Hamas strike to the Holocaust. There is no comparison! The hypocrisy is staggering. Israel is a highly militarized nation (thanks in large part to U.S. dollars), a population of well-fed, housed citizens, while the people of Gaza are being literally starved out, deprived of food, water and fuel and imprisoned on all sides with no means of escape.

Sending more money and weapons to Israel is not going to solve their “Palestinian problem.” The only acceptable answer is equal rights and democracy for all people. Until that day comes, I will continue to support the BDS Movement (Boycott, Divest and Sanctions against Israel) and I will not vote for any politician who favors aid to Israel.
