With Halloween fast approaching, coastal community members are donning their best costumes and preparing for a weekend of fun frights.

The festivities in Bath and Brunswick this weekend will range from costume parades t0 trick-or-treating and storytimes, and they offer something for the whole family.

In Bath, the Patten Free Library will host a parade of Halloween costumes for kids and families from 11 a.m. to noon Friday, Oct. 27.

After a Halloween storytime, those participating in the parade will gather at the gazebo and follow the yellow brick road through the library to show off their costumes. There will be trick-or-treat pitstops at desks and special characters to meet along the way.

Nonprofit organization Midcoast Literacy is hosting a Halloween-themed Readers Theater Sunday, Oct. 29, at 2 p.m. in the Morse High School auditorium. Characters from four children’s books will take the stage to read their stories.

The one-hour performance by local actors will feature the books “Bonaparte Falls Apart” by Margery Cuyler, “The Pirates are Coming!” by John Condon, “A Visitor for Bear” by Bonny Becker and “Moldilocks and the Three Scares,” by Lynne Marie. Halloween activities for kids will also be held before the show, starting at 1 p.m.
