With Halloween fast approaching, coastal community members are donning their best costumes and preparing for a weekend of fun frights.

The festivities in Bath and Brunswick this weekend will range from costume parades t0 trick-or-treating and storytimes, and they offer something for the whole family.

In Bath, the Patten Free Library will host a parade of Halloween costumes for kids and families from 11 a.m. to noon Friday, Oct. 27.

After a Halloween storytime, those participating in the parade will gather at the gazebo and follow the yellow brick road through the library to show off their costumes. There will be trick-or-treat pitstops at desks and special characters to meet along the way.

Nonprofit organization Midcoast Literacy is hosting a Halloween-themed Readers Theater Sunday, Oct. 29, at 2 p.m. in the Morse High School auditorium. Characters from four children’s books will take the stage to read their stories.

The one-hour performance by local actors will feature the books “Bonaparte Falls Apart” by Margery Cuyler, “The Pirates are Coming!” by John Condon, “A Visitor for Bear” by Bonny Becker and “Moldilocks and the Three Scares,” by Lynne Marie. Halloween activities for kids will also be held before the show, starting at 1 p.m.

Tickets are $10 each or $35 for a family and can be purchased at midcoastliteracy.org. All ticket proceeds will be donated to Midcoast Literacy.

Brunswick will host its annual Halloween parade the night of Halloween, followed by a “Tent-or-Treat” event at the Brunswick Mall.

People of all ages are invited to participate in a “Monster March” down Maine Street Tuesday, Oct. 31, starting at 4:30 p.m. The parade will gather and leave from the Brunswick Mall.

The parade will move down Maine Street, turning onto Federal Street and School Street and ending back at the mall.

Immediately following the parade, there will be areas set up for tents and a photo booth. Local organizers and volunteers will hand out candy from their tents, and families can get their pictures taken for a costume contest.
