SCARBOROUGH – Lonnie Marion Floyd, 71, of Scarborough, passed away on March 27, 2024, in his home surrounded by his loved ones.

Lonnie was the husband of Mary Floyd, his high school sweetheart, with whom he shared 47 years of unwavering love and devotion in their Scarborough home of almost 50 years. He grew up in South Portland and graduated from South Portland High School in 1971. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and dedication that will forever be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Lonnie was a pillar of strength and support for his family and their friends. He was deeply involved in the lives of his children, always there to guide and encourage them. Whether coaching them through Little League, serving as Little League president, or officiating Maine swim meets up and down the Maine coast, he was a constant presence, instilling in them the values of teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship.

Throughout his 45-year tenure at Hannaford Brothers warehouse, in South Portland, he exemplified dedication and hard work. His commitment to excellence was evident in everything he did, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues.

In retirement he volunteered at Partners for World Health, where he and his driving mate, Bonnie, drove all over New England. A self-taught handyman, he possessed an innate ability to fix anything and everything, earning him the title of “Mr. Fix-It” among family and friends.

Lonnie’s adventurous spirit led him to explore the world with his beloved wife, Mary. Together, they embarked on countless adventures, from the vibrant streets of Thailand to the ancient wonders of Egypt, from the vast landscapes of an African Safari to the breathtaking beauty of the Galapagos and the Amazon, and through the enchanting cities of Italy, France, England, and all across Europe.

Above all, Lonnie was a loving and devoted grandfather. He took immense joy in attending their games, cheering them on from the sidelines, and sharing in their triumphs and joys. He cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren, always ready to toss a ball, engage in playful wrestling matches, or lend a helping hand with any project.

He touched the lives of many with his gentle spirit and compassionate heart, always willing to lend a listening ear or extend a helping hand. His legacy of love and service will continue to inspire all who knew him.

He was predeceased by his parents Dorothy “Dosha” (Soule) and Lonnie Floyd Sr.

Lonnie is survived by his wife, Mary Floyd (Pirone); sister, Carol Gaidos (Floyd); son, Heath, his wife Danielle, their daughter Camdyn; son, Eric, his wife Brianna, their children Piper, Scarlett, Memphis, and Iris; daughter, Erin Huth (Floyd), son, Dylan, and bonus sons Justin and Russ; as well as his dear friend, Skip Woods.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date, where we will gather to honor and remember the remarkable man he was.
