A tractor-trailer crash early Sunday blocked southbound traffic on Interstate 295 for more than five hours.
The crash occurred shortly before 4 a.m. at mile 12 on I-295 south in Falmouth after the Canadian driver of the tractor-trailer tried to change lanes, fishtailed and plunged off the road into nearby trees, according to Maine State Police Trooper Jodell Wilkinson.
The roadway was wet at the time but that is not believed to have been a factor in the crash, Wilkinson said. Speed, drugs or alcohol are also not believed to be involved.
The 52-year-old driver, who is from Prince Edward Island, was not further identified. He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and suffered minor injuries.
Officials working the scene opened up the right lane of I-295 south shortly after 9 a.m. after the tractor-trailer was removed.
