A Harpswell man was killed Thursday when he lost control of his dirt bike while doing a wheelie and slammed into a house on Harpswell Neck Road.
Levi Alexander, 28, was traveling in Harpswell when he lost control of his 2009 Kawasaki dirt bike, left the road and went airborne before hitting the house at 1942 Harpswell Neck Road, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. Alexander died on impact.
Alexander was not wearing a helmet and police believe speed contributed to the crash.
The dirt bike was not registered for on-road use and a witness told police Alexander had been driving with his front wheel raised just before the crash, according to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office accident reconstruction team responded to the scene and the investigation remains open.
