PORTLAND — The Portland Green Independent Committee will hold a City Hall meeting Wednesday, March 11, to discuss two proposals to put a minimum wage ordinance referendum on the city ballot.
The 5:30 p.m. meeting in Room 24 will outline proposals for a citizen initiative to create a $15-per-hour minimum.
The City Council Finance Committee, chaired by Councilor Nick Mavodones Jr., had intended to hold a public hearing Thursday on a proposed ordinance to create a citywide minimum of $9.50 per hour, effective Jan. 1, 2016. But the hearing was postponed to allow the committee to discuss the financial implications of a loss of state reimbursements to the city General Assistance program.
The city currently conforms with the state-mandated $7.50-per-hour minimum wage.
