NORTH YARMOUTH — The town is accepting applications through Wednesday, Oct. 8, from candidates for the fire-rescue chief job vacated last month by Ricky Plummer.

In the meantime, Michael Robitaille – Yarmouth’s fire-rescue chief – has been appointed by the town to serve in North Yarmouth in an interim capacity until Plummer’s permanent replacement has been hired.

Plummer, the town’s fire chief since 2012, resigned to head the Old Orchard Beach Fire Department. He owns a home in Biddeford, and had been renting property in North Yarmouth. He said the new job would keep him closer to home.

Town Manager Rosemary Roy said last week that she would like to have a new chief in place no later than Nov. 1.

The department has an on-call staff of 45 people, according to the job announcement, which states that the ideal applicant “shall possess the professional experience (and) knowledge of all apparatus, equipment, training, regular practices, and the like surrounding these fields of emergency service.”

Candidates must be certified at the Firefighter I and II levels and “possess an intermediate EMT license or higher accompanied by at least (five) years’ officer experience in an organization with both firefighting and emergency medical response responsibility,” according to the announcement.

Applications and a job description can be obtained at the Town Office, 10 Village Square Road, or by logging onto northyarmouth.org. Applications are not being accepted at the town’s fire-rescue facility.

Resumes and applications can be sent to: Fire Rescue Chief Opening, Town Manager, Town of North Yarmouth, 10 Village Square Road, North Yarmouth, ME 04097, or emailed to manager@northyarmouth.org.
