PORTLAND — Police are remaining largely quiet about an investigation into a shooting late last month that landed one man in the hospital.
Lt. James Sweatt of the Portland Police Department said Monday afternoon the case is “complicated” and that he still can’t divulge details about what investigators believe transpired in the early morning hours of Jan. 28 near Sangillo’s Tavern on Hampshire Street.
“We’re still reviewing video from the scene and waiting for forensic evidence,” Sweatt said.
He did say that while police have yet to arrest anyone in connection with the incident, “We don’t believe there are any threats to the public.”
Officers received a report of gunshots near 18 Hampshire St. just before 1:30 a.m. Jan. 28. There, they found a 24-year-old Portland man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
The victim was taken to Maine Medical Center and treated for what Sweatt called “serious injuries” at the time. The victim was in stable condition during the hours after the apparent attack.
Police have not released the name of the victim, the relationship between the victim and whoever shot him, or any other details about what they think happened.
