PORTLAND — It’s only October, but the city is already looking forward to Christmas.
The city is seeking a 40- to 60-foot tall, “well-rounded” tree to be decorated with hundreds of LED lights and displayed in Monument Square. A tree-lighting ceremony will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 25.
City Arborist Jeff Darling said in a press release the city would select a “stately” tree within 10 miles of Portland, cut it down and transport it at no cost to the owner.
Submissions, including a photo of the tree, address of the tree and the owner’s phone number, should be sent to info@portlandmaine.com, or to Portland’s Downtown District, 549 Congress St., Portland, ME 4101.
