Residents in Cape Elizabeth and South Portland may safely dispose of old and unwanted medications on Saturday, Oct. 16.
Medication collection will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the South Portland Community Center, 21 Nelson Road, and the Cape Elizabeth Fire Department, 2 Jordan Way.
All unwanted or outdated prescriptions and over-the-counter medications will be accepted, “no questions asked,” South Portland police said in a press release.
The collection aims to prevent unintentional use by the elderly and children, resale by teens and young adults, and stops people from flushing old medications down the drain, which pollutes the water supply.
