SMCC hoops teams earn wins

The Southern Maine Community College women’s basketball team defeated Briarcliffe College (64-59) and John Abbott College (69-65) last week to improve to 7-5 on the season. In the first game, Amanda Chandler, Alisa Sweet and Darcey Webster all scored 18 points. Against John Abbott, Rachel Del Camp went off for 27 points, while Sweet added 17. The men improved to 7-7 on the year with a 119-104 victory over John Abbott Saturday. Paul Holland led the way with 25 points.

Special Olympics seeking flag football volunteers

Special Olympics of Cumberland County is seeking high school student volunteers to help out with the upcoming flag football league. Casco Bay Sports offering January sports leagues

Casco Bay Sports in Portland is offering four new sports leagues in January. Sunday 6-on-6 floor hockey begins Jan. 17 at Riverton Community Center. Monday night bowling starts Jan. 18 at Yankee Lanes. Sunday evening co-ed Hoops kicks off Jan. 24 at the East End Community Center. Sunday evening indoor soccer starts Jan. 31 at YourSpace in Gorham. South Portland boy wins Hoop Shoot

South Portland’s Xander Keiter won the boys’ 10-11 age group in the Elks Hoop Shoot contest Sunday at McAuley High School. Keiter advanced to the district championship this coming Sunday at Bath Middle School.
