FREEPORT — As a gesture of thanks to the men and women who have served in the military, the Muddy Rudder restaurants in Yarmouth and Brewer and the Freeport Cafe will offer free entrees to veterans and active military personnel on Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11.

The Muddy Rudder is on Route 1 in Yarmouth and is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. The Freeport Cafe on Route 1 serves food from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Sean Riley, chief operating officer of the Maine Course Hospitality Group, the company that owns and operates both restaurants, said the idea was embraced by all the partners and managers of the group.

“Peter Anastos, owner of both restaurants, came up with the idea after seeing a similar program at a car wash in Scarborough last year,” he said. “Our partners thought it was a great idea, and we went with it.”

Riley said veterans are welcome to bring friends and family to join them for a meal, since the honor is for them, too, but only the veteran will get the free entree.

“We want to do something so those who fought for our freedom will know we are thinking of them and appreciate them,” Riley said. “We hope this catches on with other businesses and will continue year after year.”

In a press release Anastos said he wants to thank the veterans who “risked their lives for us and this is the least we can do.”

Riley encouraged customers to make reservations for Wednesday, Nov. 11.
