The week that was proved to be largely triumphant for local teams. Here’s a glimpse:
Football
The defending Eastern B champion Morse Shipbuilders have now won three straight after dominating visiting Winslow 33-6 Saturday to improve to 3-1. Morse goes to 3-1 Hampden Friday night.
Brunswick is also 3-1 after holding off visiting Lewiston, 19-18, last weekend. The Dragons play at 2-2 Cony Friday.
Mt. Ararat fell to 1-3 after a 28-7 home loss to Oxford Hills. The Eagles hope to get back on track Friday night at Lewiston (3-1).
Boys’ soccer
Brunswick’s boys’ soccer team is 6-1 at the midway point and is riding a four-game winning streak after home wins over Morse (6-0) and Edward Little (2-0) last week. The Dragons (second in the latest Eastern Class A Heal Points standings) were at Oxford Hills Tuesday, host Lewiston Friday and go to Mt. Ararat Tuesday.
The Eagles entered the week 3-2-2 after tying visiting Lewiston 1-1 and beating visiting Morse 5-0 last week. Mt. Ararat (eighth in Eastern A) were home with Cony Tuesday, go to Edward Little Saturday and host Brunswick Tuesday.
Morse is 1-6 and 14th in the standings. In recent action, the Shipbuilders lost 6-0 to Brunswick and 5-0 to Mt. Ararat. Morse was home against Edward Little Tuesday, visits Erskine Friday and welcomes Oxford Hills Tuesday.
Girls’ soccer
On the girls’ side, Brunswick is still unbeaten. The Dragons won 4-2 at Morse and 3-0 over visiting Edward Little last week to improve to 7-0. Brunswick (second in the Eastern A Heals) were home with Oxford Hills Tuesday, go to Lewiston Saturday and host Mt. Ararat Tuesday.
The Eagles are fifth in the Heals with a 5-2 mark. Last week, Mt. Ararat blanked Lewiston 5-0 and edged Morse 3-2 (in overtime). The Eagles were at Cony Tuesday, play host to Edward Little Friday and visit Brunswick Tuesday.
Morse won its first five games this fall, but lost 4-2 to Brunswick, then fell 3-2 in OT to Mt. Ararat last week. The Shipbuilders (5-2 and sixth in Eastern A) went to Edward Little Tuesday, host Erskine Friday and visit Oxford Hills Tuesday.
Field hockey
Mt. Ararat and Brunswick’s field hockey teams are in the hunt for a playoff spot. The Eagles are fourth in Eastern A with a 4-4-1 mark after beating Oxford Hills 2-0 and tying Brewer 0-0. Mt. Ararat was home with Lawrence Tuesday and Cony Thursday and plays at Mt. Blue Tuesday.
Brunswick is eighth in the standings with a 4-5 mark. The Dragons last week lost 4-2 to Edward Little, then downed Lewiston 3-0. Brunswick hosted Bangor Tuesday, went to Lawrence Thursday, welcomes Mt. Blue Saturday and visits Morse Tuesday.
Morse is 2-6 after falling 3-0 at Lewiston. The Shipbuilders (10th in the Heals) went to Oxford Hills Tuesday, hosted Edward Little Thursday, play at Messalonskee Saturday and welcome Brunswick Tuesday.
Cross country
Brunswick played host to Lawrence, Maranacook, Morse, Mt. Ararat and Mt. Blue in a cross country meet last Thursday. Mt. Blue won the boys’ race with the Dragons placing second, the Eagles third and the Shipbuilders fourth. In the girls’ meet, Mt. Ararat came in first, Brunswick was runner-up and Morse placed sixth.
Golf
The regular season has come to an end on the links. Brunswick finished 10-0, then won the KVAC title Monday with a 7-2 triumph over Lewiston. Mt. Ararat finished 5-5. Morse went 1-9.
