CUMBERLAND — Two Windham teenagers were arrested after allegedly breaking into Cumberland Auto Salvage on Blackstrap Road Jan. 29 and stealing thousands of dollars in car parts and cash.
Ryan Gurney, 18, was arrested early the next morning and Jeffrey Pippin, also 18, was issued a court summons, according to police. Both face charges of burglary/breaking and entering, theft by unauthorized taking or transfer, criminal trespass and motor vehicle theft. Pippin faces an additional charge of trafficking in prison contraband.
Police said Officer Antonio Ridge was patrolling the Blackstrap Road area late at night when he saw a Jeep Cherokee pulling away from an area near a contruction site and the auto yard. He followed the vehicle and soon learned that Cumberland Auto Salvage had been broken into.
Ridge questioned Pippin, the owner of the Jeep, whoallegedly admitted breaking into the salvage yard and provided the name of his friend, who was later arrested in Windham.
Police have recovered some of the items reported stolen, including aluminum wheel rims and metal from catalytic converters. Items police are still trying to locate include two-way radios and less than $1,000 in cash.
