Knight’s Pond and its 230 acres sit right in the middle of Cumberland and North Yarmouth and has been used for years for hiking, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, biking, and skating, by hundreds of state Rep. Michael Timmons’ constituents. I knew Mr. and Mrs. Knight and they always allowed the Boy Scouts to winter camp up on Blueberry Hill and the public at large to use and enjoy their land. Their intentions were to let the people of the district preserve this land forever.
Many citizens in Timmons’ district have worked years and contributed unlimited time and money to preserve this beautiful piece of land for posterity. We are who he represents and he has let us down.
First he voted on the bill to release the funds for Land for Maine’s Future, which included the balance to finish the deal for Knight’s Pond. The Governor vetoed this bill and Timmons “flip-flopped” and succumbed to the bully governor’s wishes and voted to support his veto. All the hard work and the land is now in limbo because of Timmons’ disregard for his district’s wishes. It is us he should be thinking about and not the bully pulpit.
