Portland Babe Ruth team eliminated at World Series

Portland’s Babe Ruth 14 All-Star team, the New England Region champion, lost its first two games in pool play at the World Series in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, then won two straight before falling in its finale. Portland lost its opener, 6-1, to White Hall, Arkansas, then fell again, 13-3, to Tri Valley, California. Portland kept its title hopes alive by rallying for five runs in its final at-bat to down Frankin, Kentucky, 9-8,  in nine innings, then defeated South Arkansas, 5-4, in eight innings. A win in the finale could have meant a trip to the knockout round, but Portland lost to Atlantic Shore, New Jersey, 4-3.
