CAPE ELIZABETH — Talya Edlund, a third-grade teacher at Pond Cove Elementary School, is a finalist for Maine Teacher of the Year.
Edlund is one of three finalists for the 2016 award. The winner will be announced at a surprise all-school assembly in October.
Edlund, who has worked at Pond Cove since 2004, was named Cumberland County Teacher of the Year in May. She was nominated by a parent and was one of 300 nominees across all 16 Maine counties.
To choose the winner for teacher of the year, a panel from the Department of Education will conduct personal interviews and have school site visits with Edlund and the other finalists.
