BRUNSWICK — Lt. Tom Garrepy will be the Police Department’s new patrol commander starting Monday, Aug. 29.

His promotion was announced Monday morning, five days before Cmdr. Marc Hagan leaves the department to become chief of police in Lisbon.

Garrepy will inherit oversight of the department’s patrol officers. Garrepy said by mid-September, the department will have 28 officers, seven below the number it should, and patrol units are currently staffed at their minimum.

“It’s going to be a challenge,” he said Monday. “We’ll make it work.”

Garrepy has been a Brunswick police officer for more than 20 years, and, in that time, has worked his way up the chain of command from patrol officer.
