NEW FACES

• Andrea Todd joined Clark Insurance as a business insurance agent. Todd, of Westbrook, has more than 20 years of experience in the property and casualty insurance industry. She has earned the certified insurance counselor designation.

• Jim Dowe was named interim president and chief executive officer of Good Shepherd Food Bank. Dowe most recently served as president and chief executive officer of Maine Public Broadcasting Network and is a former president of Bangor Savings Bank. He will assist the board of directors and senior leadership with the search for a permanent president and CEO.

• Daune Lord was hired as nurse manager for the Medical/Surgical Unit at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth. Lord has extensive experience as a nurse manager in the specialties of oncology, intensive care, care management, trauma and coronary care in Maine, New Mexico and New Jersey. 

• Mary Elizabeth Parent joined the staff of Kappa Mapping Inc. in Bangor. Parent was first hired in December 2011 to work part time on an orthophotography project for the United States Geological Survey. She also represented Kappa when the firm collaborated with the Bangor Daily News to create a map of the Bangor region.

• Jimmy Liang joined the sales team at Patriot Subaru, Route One in Saco. Liang, of Scarborough, is also a co-owner of the Chia Sen Chinese Restaurant in Scarborough with his wife, Jennifer Wu.

• Mark Sandler was hired as a sales agent at NAI The Dunham Group, a commercial real estate brokerage firm in Portland. Sandler grew up in Portland and is the former president of Sandler Bros Inc. in Biddeford.

PROMOTIONS

• Kevin Gough and Sally Anderson were promoted to associates at Archetype Architects of Portland. Gough is an architect and Anderson is an interior designer.

• Cameron Bird was named nurse manager for Maine Coast Memorial Hospital’s emergency department. Bird, of Ellsworth, joined the hospital in 2006 as an emergency department secretary while completing his bachelor’s degree in nursing. He then entered the nurse internship program and subsequently joined the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.

AWARDS

• Skillins Greenhouses received a Falmouth Friends of Habitat Award from the organizers of the Falmouth Family and Pet Walk. Skillins Greenhouses has been a loyal supporter of Habitat for Humanity for many years, as have all of the Falmouth churches.

• Oakhurst Dairy, northern New England’s largest independent family-owned dairy company, recognized its top dairy farms from around the state. Ten farms were recognized for overall quality.

The top five farms are R.E. Hemond Inc. of Minot; Highland Farms Inc. of Cornish; Deerfield Farm of Winterport; Androscoggin Holsteins of Leeds; and Hemond Hill Farm of Minot. These farms received a plaque and a cash gift from Oakhurst Dairy. The remaining five producers recognized in the top 10 are Aghaloma Farms of Knox; Silver Maple Farms Inc. of Albion; Hilton Farm of Norridgewock; East Ledge Farm of Leeds; and Scott Farm of Garland.

BOARD APPOINTMENTS

• Elizabeth “Beth” Bordowitz, CEO of the Finance Authority of Maine, was elected to the board of directors of the National Council of Higher Education Loan Programs Inc. Bordowitz, an attorney and resident of Portland, has served as FAME’s CEO since May 2009.

• Scott Oxley and Vincent Veroneau were elected to the board of directors of Bangor Savings Bank. Both were also elected trustees of Bangor Bancorp, MHC and directors of the Bangor Savings Bank Foundation. Oxley is senior vice president of support services for Affiliated Healthcare Systems in Bangor. Veroneau is president and CEO of J.B. Brown & Sons, one of the largest real estate owners in the Portland region.

• James Norton, an osteopathic medicine professor of physiology at the University of New England, was appointed to the Maine Developmental Disabilities Council by Gov. Paul LePage. Norton also serves on the board of directors of the Pine Tree Society.

AWARDS and RECOGNITION

• Volkswagen Group of America Inc. named Prime Volkswagen of Saco as a member of its exclusive Customer First Club. Prime Volkswagen ranks as the 12th best Volkswagen dealership in the country.

• Joseph E. Payne was given the 2012 Environmental Merit Award for a lifetime of advocacy for clean water. Payne was hired by Friends of Casco Bay in 1991 to serve as the environmental steward of Casco Bay.

• David A. Moltz, M.D., unit chief of outpatient behavioral health at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick, received the Dr. Ulrich B. Jacobsohn Lifetime Achievement Award for his “extraordinary and tireless efforts” on behalf of those with psychiatric disorders. Moltz has been practicing psychiatry for 35 years, 22 of which have been in Maine.

• St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston was honored with a 2012 Partner for Change Award, with distinction, from Practice Greenhealth, the national membership organization for health care facilities committed to environmentally responsible operations. St. Mary’s received the award for its commitment to protect public health and preserve the environment.

GENERAL

• Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems recently unveiled its new website, www.emhs.org. The website was created to raise the profiles of its member organizations and to showcase the initiatives that are making a difference in the communities, such as Bangor Beacon Community, Raising Readers and Move and Improve.

• Kate Dutra, operations manager at Green Acres Kennel Shop and a certified professional dog trainer, was recently certified as an evaluator in the new canine life and social skills program. She has been a trainer at Green Acres since 1992.

• Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution has chosen Portland-based Broadreach Public Relations as its agency of record.

• Kevan Lee Deckelmann, attorney and shareholder at Bernstein Shur, recently received the Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent rating. Deckelmann is a member of Bernstein Shur’s Business Law Practice Group.

• Lawrence “Larry” O’Brien, a volunteer at Southern Maine Medical Center, was recently recognized with the Lauren Shulman Volunteer of the Year award. O’Brien has been a volunteer at SMMC for six years, contributing more than 2,600 hours of his time to the front desk and delivering patient mail.
