    Top Scholars

    Telstar Regional High School staff and students are pleased to announce the honor students from the graduating class of 2012. These eleven individuals have distinguished themselves throughout their high school careers. The Telstar community congratulates these young scholars for their commitment to their studies, their school and their communities.

    Adam Mahar - Valedictorian
    Adam Mahar, son of Joseph Mahar of Andover and Anne Marie Mahar of Rumford is the Class of 2012 Valedictorian. He is also this year's Maine Principals' Award recipient at Telstar.
    Adam is a National Merit Scholar who will be an excellent addition to the student body of Cornell University's College of Arts and Sciences this fall, where he plans to pursue a degree in history. Adam has been a regular at the top of his courses at Telstar, challenging himself with several honors and Advanced Placement (AP) courses.
    In the community he has volunteered for the Bethel Outing Club, Chisholm Ski Club and Maine Winter Special Olympics. At Telstar he is Class Secretary and a member of the National Honor Society (NHS), Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Telstar's Tech Team and Student Council. Adam is also a three-sport athlete, competing on the cross-country running, cross-country skiing, and track and field teams.
    Off campus, Adam enjoyed participating in Moody's Mega Math Challenge and National Novel Writing Month. He is also an avid hiker.

    Emily Bellinger - Salutatorian
    Emily Bellinger, daughter of Rev. Kevin and Nancy Bellinger of Bethel, is an experienced musician who plans to attend Nyack College in New York next year as a Music Education major.
    Telstar's Salutatorian has had lead roles in the school's musical productions of "Fiddler on the Roof," "Guys and Dolls," "Beauty and the Beast" and "Grease." She has also participated in the District II Honors and Maine All State choirs.
    Emily serves her community as a volunteer with the Bethel Alliance Church's Worship Team, Vacation Bible Adventure and Nursery and Children's Church. She is also a member of Telstar Student Council and NHS. During her free time, Emily likes to read, write, draw, play music and bake.

    Britany Douglass - Third Honors
    Britany Douglass has excelled at her rigorous studies at Telstar, where she has taken many honors and AP courses. She is the daughter of Brent and Shelley Douglass of Albany Township.
    Britany's leadership and involvement with school activities is exceptional. She is Co-President of her class and the Student Council. She is also a member of NHS, Freshman Awareness Team (FACT) and Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA). Last summer, she was a Girls State delegate.
    In her free time, Britany loves to dance. She has danced every year in community youth dance productions since she was three, holding the lead in many of these recitals. For the past few years, she has been an assistant dance teacher at Toe Tappin' Jazz Dance Studio in Bethel. She plans to attend the University of Maine at Farmington to major in Rehabilitation Services.

    Karen White - Fourth Honors
    Karen White is a quiet, thoughtful leader and mentor at Telstar. The daughter of Rodney and Lorie White of Albany Township, she plans to attend the University of Maine at Orono next year, focusing on pre-medical studies with the goal of becoming an obstetrician.
    Karen has earned several Telstar Academic Excellence awards while taking a rigorous course schedule. She is also NHS secretary and previous class secretary. She is a member of Student Council, band, chorus, theater, graduation committee, prom committee and FACT. She has served as a student mentor for the Telstar Leadership Committee and helped welcome Freshman to the first day of school at Telstar.
    Karen has really enjoyed the Certified Nursing Assistant program at Region 9 School of Applied Technology, where she was named this year's Career and Technical Education Student of the Year. Karen also loves to swim and read.

    Naomi Ellsworth - Fifth Honors
    Naomi Ellsworth always has a ready smile and a positive attitude. She is the daughter of Warren and Melanie Ellsworth of Greenwood and recently traveled to Spain, France, and Italy.
    Naomi played four years of varsity field hockey and is also a member of Student Council, Prom Committee, RYLA and drama. She is the NHS and FBLA historian and served a year as class president. Off campus, she volunteers at the Toe Tappin Jazz dance studio.
    After graduation, Naomi plans to attend either the University of Maine at Orono and major in the college of liberal arts and sciences. In her free time she enjoys photography, reading, art, music as well as fashion and fashion photography.

    Matthew Keane - Sixth Honors
    Matthew Keane plans to leave the Earth one day. He'd like to start his journey as an Air Force jet-fighter pilot and finish it as spacecraft pilot. He is the son of Steve and Marie Keane of Bethel.
    Matthew has spent a lot of time as a volunteer at the Special Olympics. He is also a member of Student Council and president of FBLA. Mathew is a cross-country runner and skier, who is also on the track team in the spring.
    Matthew is a Lego enthusiast. He is in a Lego league and also makes short films with his Lego creations. He plans to attend Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Florida to study Aerospace Engineering.

    Daniel Whitney - Seventh Honors
    Daniel Whitney is a three-season varsity athlete and Mountain Valley Conference All Star. He is the son of Rick and Ellen Whitney of Bethel.
    Daniel is a former Cub Scout and 4-H member who volunteers as a Physical Education aide and participated in Telstar's Contractors Day. He was also selected as a Telstar Student of the Month. Daniel has spent four years on the golf, basketball and baseball teams at Telstar.
    Daniel enjoys waffle ball, biking and golf in his free time. He plans to attend Husson University to study sports management.

    Hunter Verrill - Eighth Honors
    Field hockey co-captian Hunter Verrill is the daughter of Michael and Amy Verrill of Hanover.
    She is a member of NHS, who also volunteers at the Gardner Roberts Memorial Library in Hanover. Hunter has been Athlete and Student of the month. She is a member of the band, who is also a pit musician for drama productions.
    Hunter has a long list of hobbies and interests including horseback riding, dancing, reading, target shooting, archery, hiking, photography, swimming, running and anything that will get her outdoors! She plans to attend Central Maine Community College for general studies.

    Annalyn Bachmann - Ninth Honors
    Annie Bachmann is a musician and an artist who plans to attend Emmanuel College in Boston, where she plans to major in political science and minor in German studies. She is the daughter of Holly Bachmann of Shelburne, NH.
    Annie played tennis and soccer for much of her high school career. She has worked to improve conditions at the Hope Haven Gospel Mission in Lewiston. She is also a member of the Shelburne Trails Committee and a previous Rug Rats ski program volunteer.
    Annie is a classical pianist, who plays tennis year-round. She plans to continue her art exploration throughout college.

    Kallie Brown - Ninth Honors
    Kallie Brown is always ready to help out in any way needed. She is the daughter of Levi and Deidra Brown of Bethel.
    Kallie is a four-year FBLA member and has been the organization's secretary for the past two years. She is also NHS vice-president and a member of student council. Kallie played softball and field hockey all four years at Telstar and was hockey co-captain her senior year.
    Kallie likes to get outdoors and enjoy life. She plans to major in Elementary Education this fall at St. Michael's College in Burlington, Vermont.

    Lyndsay Merrill - Tenth Honors
    Lyndsay Merrill is an outdoor enthusiast, honor student and the daughter of James and Mary Merrill of Bethel.
    Lyndsay enjoys volunteering in the community, especially at the Crescent Park School. She is a softball and field hockey player, who is also a member of the Graduation Committee at Telstar.
    Lyndsay enjoys hunting, fishing, four-wheeling and snowmobiling. She plans to attend Husson University in the fall and major in Business Management with a concentration in sports management.
