FALMOUTH — The Fire Department responded to several brush fires just north of Maine Turnpike Exit 53  in the early afternoon Monday, April 29.

Fire Chief Howard Rice said there were four fires that burned about 1.5 acres. Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames before they spread or reached the highway.

Rice said two fire trucks from Portland assisted at the scene, as did the Maine State Police and Maine Turnpike Authority staff. He also said a ranger from the Maine Forest Service helped investigate the cause of the fires and document them, and there were no injuries.
