NEWPORT, R.I. – A Rhode Island man has been sentenced to life in prison after shooting a Massachusetts man in the head then leaving the body in a car.

James Lapre, 26, of Tiverton pleaded no contest to first degree murder and was sentenced Friday in Superior Court in Newport.

Prosecutors say Lapre planned to rob Andrew Taylor, 25, of Freetown, Mass., after Taylor told him he had money to buy prescription drugs.

They say Lapre shot Taylor in January 2010 then left his body in the car in Fall River.

The car was towed to Freetown, where Taylor’s body was discovered a week later.
