Aaron M. Bouchard, 25, was indicted by a grand jury last month on charges stemming from a May 24 incident in Gorham.
Bouchard faces charges of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon and terrorizing with a dangerous weapon. All of the charges are felony crimes and if convicted, Bouchard could receive a sentence of five years in prison, a $5,000 fine, or both on each count.
According to a statement issued by Gorham Police, Bouchard was sought in connection with a domestic violence incident in Saco and was described as being possibly armed and suicidal.
Bouchard refused to come out of the woods and Gorham officers, with the assistance of Buxton Police and University of Southern Maine Police, established a perimeter for public safety, Sanborn said.
Police say that Bouchard had been raised in the Gorham area and was familiar with the site.
“After a period of communication, Mr. Bouchard came out into the open lot and fired three shots in the direction of the officers,” Sanborn said.
When Gorham Police Chief Daniel Jones returned fire, Bouchard allegedly turned and retreated into the woods.
He was eventually tracked and found by Gorham police and members of the Cumberland County Emergency Services Unit and was arrested without incident.
Bouchard was not carrying a weapon when he was taken into custody, but investigators did find three 9mm shell casings near the spot where he allegedly fired at police.
